Because I can’t deal with this. And it’s not even that I download stuff that often. It’s the principle of the thing.
Companies are arguing that the entertainment industry is losing money due to pirating, right? But how do they know that? Have there been any actual studies done? Have they polled the people on the internet who would be able to answer best and give them the most conclusive data?
…
I’m sorry, but if you think that the entertainment industry hasn’t lost money to piracy, you are delusional. I’m not saying SOPA was some genius maneuver or that there’s really any SUPER effective way to monitor piracy, but loving something (TV/Movies) doesn’t give you the right to own it for free? Otherwise I’d be driving a Mercedes and wearing all-Burberry-everything. Higher ticket prices at the box office, higher dvd prices, etc IS A RESULT OF PIRACY. People have to make money off their creative work somehow? Considering OnDemand, Hulu, and Netflix the “industry” has actually made their intellectual property WAY easier and cheaper (sometimes free! WOW!) to access online to reduce piracy. And yes, people don’t make money from uploading some screener they got somewhere but huge sites like Megaupload.com do, so I’m not saying everyone should be sued for $300,000 dollars for stealing a song but to complain about NOT BEING ABLE TO STEAL is pretty ridiculous when there is an insane amount of free entertainment provided by the people that make it easily accessible to all Americans with internet.
